*Brandy Norwood is reprising her role as Cinderella more than two decades after her initial portrayal for Disney.
She originally starred as Cinderella in ABC’s 1997 movie alongside Paolo Montalban as Prince Charming. She returns in “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” now streaming on Disney+ and premiering on Disney Channel on August 9. The film marks the fourth installment in the “Descendants” franchise.
Directed by Jennifer Phang, with a script from Dan Frey and Russell Sommer, here’s the synopsis: “Descendants: The Rise of Red” follows the story of Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter. When the tyrannical Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, polar opposites Red and Chloe must join forces and travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.”
“We’re so honored, so blessed, so excited,” Norwood tells The Hollywood Reporter about reuniting with Montalban. “This is such a magical experience to be able to work with Paolo again, to waltz with him, to sing with him — all of it.”
Montalban gushed… “Not only is there an abundance of representation in the [Descendants] characters, there’s also representation of different types of families.”
He added, “It feels normal in this world because it should be normal, because it is normal in our world as well. That lets people feel like they belong and feel like they’re seen.”
Meanwhile, next up for Brandy is the leading role in the A24 psychological horror movie “The Front Room,” which hits theaters in September.
“I’m still inspired,” said Brandy. “I love what I do. I’m just excited for everything to hit the scene and see what people think, and to see if people can still be inspired by what I do.”
