*Groundbreaking to revitalize Boone Theater is set for October 17th! The Vine Street Collaborative team, a local partnership of Shomari Benton, Tim Duggan, and R. Jason Parson, is jazzed to announce the groundbreaking for the Boone Theater project.
Located in the heart of the Historic 18th and Vine Jazz District, the newly renovated Boone Theater will house The Black Movie Hall of Fame, The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, and multiple office suites.

WHAT: Leaders and future tenants will give brief remarks to celebrate the groundbreaking of Boone Theater. Speakers include Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, State Senator Barbara Washington, 3rd District-at-Large Councilwoman Melissa Patterson-Hazley, Vine Street Collaborative Partner Shomari Benton, Black Movie Hall of Fame Director Shawn Edwards, and The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City Director Damron Armstrong.
Wear comfortable, flat-bottom shoes; this is an active construction site. Enter through the door on the west side of the building off Highland Avenue. Transportation options are RideKC bus and on-street parking. Media availability after the event.
About the Boone Theater Project
The Boone Theater project, located at 1701 E. 18th Street, is an exciting historic preservation venture reimagining the 1924 structure into an epicenter of high culture in Kansas City’s Vine District. Sitting across the street from the Gem Theater and the American Jazz and Negro Leagues Baseball Museums, “The Boone” will house digital media labs, The Black Movie Hall of Fame, The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City, amongst others.
