*Apple is set to release a new interactive wall-mounted tablet, expected to debut in March 2025.
The device, which will function as a smart home command center, will feature a 6-inch touchscreen, a camera, a rechargeable battery, and internal speakers, BGR reports. It will integrate Apple Intelligence and voice commands via Siri. The display will be available in black and silver and will run an interface combining elements of watchOS and iOS 17’s StandBy mode.
The device will compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google Nest Hub, and offer accessories like wall mounts and bases with built-in speakers. Like the HomePod, Apple’s “command center for the home” can also be controlled via a new system called “App Intents” that allows AI to manage applications.
The device features sensors to detect proximity, while still supporting traditional Apple apps such as Safari, Apple Music, Notes, and Calendar. It has an expected price range of $100 to $250.
Apple is also developing a smart home companion robotic arm that follows you around the room, potentially priced around $1000.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes: “Apple has designed different attachments for the device, including ones that affix the screens onto walls like a classic home-security panel. There will be bases with additional speakers that can be placed in the kitchen, on a nightstand or on a desk. Apple imagines the FaceTime feature being used while cooking or for videoconferencing during work meetings.”
