*Cardi B is facing potential legal action from Italian Pop artist aleXsandro Palombo over the rapper’s Marge Simpson Halloween costume.

The original artwork with Marge Simpson wearing a Thierry Mugler is a Palombo original and part of the “Marge Simpson Style Icon” series that the artist created in 2013. Cardi is accused of donning similar attire for her Marge Simpson Halloween costume and publishing images of herself without giving credit to Palombo.

According to ArtNet News, Palombo has tuned to lawyer Claudio Volpi, who specializes in intellectual property law and intends to take legal action against Cardi.

“Cardi B has illegitimately appropriated the work of aleXsandro Palombo for mere business purposes in defiance of the most elementary rules on copyright and Instagram policies, with the consequent serious risks, both of compensation and of discredit for her public image,” Volpi said in a statement.

“Cardi B and her collaborators have used my artwork without any authorization, debasing its original meaning and only to amplify their image with a clear commercial purpose that has nothing to do with that path of social awareness that has always characterized my works. Dear Mrs. Cardi B, based on your reasoning, shall everyone illegally download your music?” said Palombo in a statement.

Volpi told Artnet News that legal action against the American pop star and her closest collaborators is being pursued due to unauthorized use of the artwork.

A statement from Palombo’s office notes thatNo one, starting from Cardi B, her production company Atlantic Records, her publicists, the director and photographer Jora Frantzis and her stylist Kollin Carter” reached out to the artist before using the work.

Frantzis reportedly respodned by noting he had not been “aware there was an artist behind this image previously” but that she would be “happy to add the credits.”

The artist requested that everyone involved follow up with a “remedial” post giving him proper credit and linking to his Instagram page but this did not happen.

Volpi has not yet filed the lawsuit but a formal notice has been sent to Cardi’s team as well as Craig Kallman, the chairperson of Atlantic Records, requesting that they publish the follow-up post within seven days or face legal action seeking compensation for Palombo.
