*Trevor Noah is speaking out about the real reason behind his surprise exit from “The Daily Show” after serving as host for seven years.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the South African comedian said his own representatives were not aware he would make the announcement when he did in late September.

“Part of the reason I did it that way is because I didn’t want anybody to be the person who then tells somebody else, who then tells somebody else, who then tells somebody else… so for me, it felt like the most natural way to tell everybody at the same time,” said Noah.

He went on to say that after the COVID lockdown and strict restrictions during the pandemic, once he returned to the studio, taping “The Daily Show” “wasn’t as much fun anymore,” Noah said.

Noah announced his Daily Show departure in September, telling fans and viewers in a video statement: “There are so many people who make this thing come together, and I want to say thank you to the audience for an amazing seven years,” he said, PEOPLE reports.

“It’s been wild. I remember when we first started, so many people didn’t believe in us. It was a crazy bet to make. I still think it was a crazy choice… What a journey it’s been,” Noah continued.

“It’s something that I never expected, and I found myself thinking throughout the time, everything we’ve gone through — the Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, the more pandemic,” Noah added. “And I realized that after these seven years, my time is up. But in the most beautiful way, honestly.”

Noah’s final show airs on 8 December, after that, he will kick off his worldwide Off The Record Tour, starting in the US on January 20 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, The Blast reports. He is taking the tour around the world with stops in Austin, New Orleans, and New York.  The international dates have not yet been announced.

The tour will reportedly end with a four-night run in San Francisco, California at The Masonic, from November 30 to December 3. Tickets for the U.S. dates are on sale via LiveNation.com.

Meanwhile, Noah and his Day Zero production company have a slate of projects lined up, “more than 30 projects across multiple platforms, including a scripted project based on Noah’s early days immigrating to the US, a video game and a Broadway musical about apartheid with veteran producer Scott Sanders in the works,” per News 24.

“I think stardom is a byproduct of a job well executed, so that’s not something I’m too concerned about. If anything, I wouldn’t mind a little less stardom so I can eat a few meals uninterrupted,” Noah told THR.
