Byron Allen & Allen Media Group Put On Inaugural ‘The Grio Awards’ | EUR Video Exclusive

*Byron Allen and the Allen Media Group put on the first-ever The Grio Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 22. 

For the inaugural ceremony, some of the biggest names in Black Hollywood were honored, including Tyler Perry who received the Icon award. Additionally, Benjamin Crump received the Justice Icon Award, Patti LaBelle received the Music Icon Award, Jennifer Hudson received the Trailblazer Icon Award, Queen Latifah received the Television Icon Award, and more. 

The star-studded event also brought out celebrities such as Luenell, KJ Smith, Dave & Tonya Winfield hosts Sheryl Underwood and Taye Diggs and so many more. 

As a recipient of the Trailblazer Icon Award, Hudson shared empowering advice for those who want to follow in her footsteps stating, “Trust yourself. No one dreams as big as you do. Stay focused and trust yourself and you’ll make it, you’ll blaze many trails.”

In addition to being one of the night’s honorees, LaBelle also put on a powerhouse performance singing classic songs like “If Only You Knew” and “Superwoman” bringing out Fantasia, Yolanda Adams, Hudson and Latifah to join her on stage. 

On receiving the Music Icon award, LaBelle graciously said, “That’s everything. My God that’s a blessing. Thank you.”

Head of Allen Media Group and founder of The Grio Awards Byron Allen also spoke about his selection process when choosing who to honor.

“The selection process wasn’t challenging,” Allen said. “I chose them all, it was really easy. I have plenty of black excellence to choose from. So you will see us each and every year.”

The ceremony also featured performances from Fantasia, Yolanda Adams, Tyrese, and more.

In addition to airing on CBS this Saturday, November 26th at 8PM ET/PT, the show will then air on theGrio Cable Network starting Sunday, November 27th at 8PM ET/PT, as well as other AMG platforms (streaming, on-demand and theGrio.com) throughout the end of the year. Check local listings.

Prior to the main show airing on theGrio Sunday, per a news release, theGrio will broadcast at 4PM ET/PT the “TheGrio Awards Red Carpet show” pre-show, giving viewers a more in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the festivities that were held in Beverly Hills, including red carpet interviews by April Ryan, Natasha Alford, Marc Lamont Hill, Paige Audrey-Marie Hurd, and Aundrea Cline-Thomas. “TheGrio Awards Honorees” post-show will air Sunday at midnight ET/PT. The shows are executive produced by Byron Allen and Geraldine Moriba and producer/director is Christina Faith.
