So was hosting a podcast the logical next step in taking the KeKe Palmer brand to that next level?

KeKe: I would love to believe that I was that great of a writer, but God is the best author, and he actually is just the one that, or he/they is the one that has guided my whole entire career. So for me, I can’t say that I thought, “Oh, I’m going to do a podcast.” But as time has gone and I’ve reached this point, I don’t think that there’s anything that’s more perfect in terms of where I want to continue to evolve to, just as a host and as somebody that wants to speak in terms of my generation and what we’re going through, and being able to have a platform to talk about all the kinds of things that we want to talk about and in-depth.

For inquiring minds who want to know what makes your podcast unique compared to other podcasts hosted by celebrities, what say you to them?

Well, it might be cliche, but I think the thing that makes anybody’s podcast unique is obviously who’s ever at the helm. And so I think that my perspective and just the way that I look at things and when to talk about things, which I think people know probably about me at this point, is what is at the centerpiece of this podcast. So you can expect unique topics, definitely surrounding pop culture, but also just, I think, things that are timeless like being a career person and also trying to have a personal life, not knowing when is the right time to have kids, trying to figure out where the hell Tom from MySpace went and how he started all this and dipped out on us, to how to really get and understand politics, and how much are we actually really supposed to be counting on our government or actually doing shit on our own. Just all the things that we’re all trying to figure out.

But I think the other exciting half of it for me is the discovery element. It’s like, yeah, we can always have a conversation with a celebrity or an entertainer, but then we also can have conversations with experts, professors, people that are doing really well in their field, and that we can learn from. So I think that is the thing that excites me the most.

Do you have any celebrity guests helping you unpack some of these conversations?

Yes. Well, we have many different types of guests. When I was unpacking Only Fans and its impact on our generation, and how our idea of sex and sexuality being in the forefront of things has changed, and how it’s been so prominent in my generation, I had a good conversation with Blac Chyna. And having an interesting conversation with Jaleel White, who much like me, Jaleel was attached to a character that he created, but that is not exactly him.

And so yes, talking about that, the entertainment aspect of it, but also talking about it in terms of how we all feel. Because we all get attached to a certain identity somewhere at some point in our lives and don’t really know how to shake it.

Do you deep dive into any conspiracy theories on your podcast?

I would. I definitely, definitely would. I don’t think I have actually put any conspiracy theories in there. But I loved watching the QAnon doc, and I’m a huge documentary person, so I would totally be interested in talking to somebody about any type of theory. Absolutely. I love to pick people’s brain. So I think the other exciting part about it is hearing from my audience what they want to hear me unpack and who they want to hear me talk to as well.

What are you hoping listeners are left thinking about or talking about after listening to the episodes?

That they learn something. That they see something differently that they didn’t think about it that way initially. I think that’s the thing you always want when you’re thinking about bringing something new to someone, is that you want them to feel like they didn’t waste their time, and that they got something out of it. I think for me, I never want people to feel like they didn’t get anything out of a moment or a second with me. And so that’s ultimately what I want to bring with every topic. And also things that are unexpected, because every topic might not sound extreme, but the way that we explore it is what makes it different, it makes it stand out. So when you think about Baby, This is KeKe Palmer, don’t just pick the most glaring topic that you think is, “Oh my gosh, this is the conversation that I think is going to be the most fun.” Because you’ll be surprised at the things that actually make for the best conversations.

Did you refer to the massively popular “Baby, That’s KeKe Palmer” meme when naming your podcast?

Exactly. Of course, girl. Yes, you know that’s where I pulled the title from, 1000%. Yeah, totally, totally.

You’re so real and down to earth and authentic that fans can’t help but turn some of your memorable moments into hilarious memes. How does it feel to be a meme icon on social media?

That’s honestly the greatest kindness that anyone could show you because memes are the most relatable thing to us all. So to feel so universally related to, especially in the kind of career and job that I’m in that sometimes can make people entirely feel unrelatable to you is the greatest compliment in the world. I love my generation. We tickle each other. I think the things that we create, and the irony that we unfold on the internet is insane. And for me to be a part of that, it’s dope.
