Critics Choice Awards: Zendaya, Kaluuya, Aduba, Boseman, Boyega Win in Taye Diggs-Hosted Ceremony (Watch)

Taye Diggs hosts the 2021 Critics Choice Awards

*The 26th annual Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Taye Diggs, took place Sunday on a virtual and in-person stage with Nomadland and The Crown emerging as the big winners.

The awards were noticeably more inclusive than the Golden Globes with its winners. Zendaya was honored with the SeeHer award, Daniel Kaluuya won for Best Supporting Actor in Judas and the Black Messiah. Michael K. Williams from Lovecraft Country and Uzo Aduba from Mrs. America took home awards for their supporting roles in a limited series or movie made for television.

John Boyega received continued recognition for his role in Amazon’s Small Axe. Chadwick Boseman posthumously won for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and his wife Taylor Simone Ledward delivered another emotional acceptance speech.

Nomadland won for Best Picture while filmmaker Chloe Zhao nabbed Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Netflix’s The Crown continues to collect hardware with Gillian Anderson’s win for Best Supporting Actress Drama for her role as Margaret Thatcher. Meanwhile, Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin won for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, respectively.

Ted Lasso also won big as it snagged Best Comedy while Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham won for their performances. Other big winners of the night included Andy Samberg’s Palm Springs for Best Comedy feature, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’s Maria Bakalova for Best Supporting Actress and Carey Mulligan for Best Actress for Promising Young Woman. On the TV side, Schitt’s Creek continues to win with acting awards for Dan Levy and Catherine O’Hara.

Netflix led the pack of studios/networks with 14 wins, followed by Amazon Studios and Searchlight Pictures wit four and Apple TV+ with 3.
