*Being healthy is not as complicated as you think. This 2021, amidst the pandemic, it is now time to take control of your health and be the best version of yourself. Take a look at these nine effective changes that can go a long way to help you revive and improve your health.

1.  Get Adequate Sleep

Sleep is an important function of the body that allows us to recharge for the next day. Not only that, but our body does wonder while we are sleeping. Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep per night, and if we don’t get that seven to eight hours of sleep our body functions can decline. Good sleep boosts our immune system and improves our concentration and productivity. Moreover, it prevents us from having excess weight gain, heart diseases, and even depression.

We can say that good sleep is one of the pillars of health. Ensure that you are getting adequate sleep every day, and you can see that your health will improve drastically.

2.  Practice Healthy Eating

Practicing healthy eating doesn’t mean you have to stop eating everything you want and just eat boring and bland. Little changes that you make in your diet can add up to bigger health benefits. Start by including fruit, vegetables, legumes in your daily meal. Eat unsaturated fats such as fish fat, avocado, and olive oil and avoid saturated fats and trans fat of all kinds.

The key is to replace processed and unhealthy food with real food as much as possible. You might get overwhelmed with all of the nutrition and diet advice you hear or see, start with minding what you put in your body, and you’re already one step forward to being healthy.

3.  Avoid Junk Foods

As mentioned, eating healthy shouldn’t be overly complicated. Aside from eating healthy, you should avoid too much salt, sodium, and sugar. High sodium consumption can increase a lot of risk for illnesses such as heart disease and stroke. Sodium is found everywhere, particularly in processed food, artificial seasoning, and salty snacks.

Also, sugar intake aside from tooth decay and obesity can increase your risk of having diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. It would be best if you limit your consumption of sugary snacks and beverages. If you are craving salty or sugary snacks, you can opt for nuts, vegetables, and fresh fruit. Always look at the nutrition labels of everything before you purchase and consume it.

4.  Engage in Regular Physical Activity

Staying active is one of the top ways to revive our health. Not only that it keeps us healthy and improves our physical aspect, but it also boosts our overall well-being and quality of life. As mentioned by the experts at Healthy Land, exercising is not the only way to be active. In addition, it doesn’t have to be long or intense for it to work. A moderate 30-minute physical activity is enough to help you feel better, look better, and live better.

If you are dreading going to the gym, here are some physical activity you can do instead:

  • Brisk walking
  • Running and jogging
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Dancing
  • Badminton
  • Yoga

5.  Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is often overlooked as an essential part of staying healthy. Drinking water helps maintain body fluids balance. These bodily fluids are in charge of digestion, absorption, circulation, and transporting nutrients in our body. Moreover, being dehydrated can affect your digestion, mood, and focus. Lastly, the lack of water can cause complications and illnesses.  We all know that we should drink at least eight glasses per day. However, your body needs more if you engage in intense physical activities, stay outdoors, or live in a hot climate.

6.  Reduce Stress

Reducing stress and staying away from things that make you anxious is vital to good health. Being under immense stress can consume the energy and nutrients that should be used to protect your body and immune system. Moreover, stress can cause sleep deprivation, irritability, and depression. In conclusion, stress can be a major cause of many health conditions. As much as possible, manage your stress levels with exercising, reading, meditation, or any mindfulness practices that are effective to you.

If you are struggling with tremendous stress, it would be best to talk to someone or seek professional help to improve your condition.

7.  Be Mindful About Taking Supplements

Many companies are claiming that their supplements and multivitamins can help you be healthy and avoid diseases. However, most research shows that it gives few to no health benefits to our body. Before you start taking them, ensure that you carefully research the benefits and side effects it can give to you. If you can, skip taking them at all and just get everything you need with their natural counterpart. If you need Vitamin C, you can eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in it. Spend time in sunlight if you need Vitamin D and eat milk, yogurt, cheese, and drink calcium-fortified beverages if you lack calcium in your body.

8.  Quit Vices

As much as possible, quit your vices such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or using substances. Doing all of these are the worst things that can damage your health. Smoking is extremely dangerous since you can reap all of its effects on your body, such as cancer, heart disease, and stroke. On the other hand, moderate alcohol consumption is fine as long as you limit it according to the alcohol guidelines. Drug abuse can hugely affect your health and other aspects of your life. Abusing them can bring short-term and long-term effects, may it be physical and psychological.

9.  Be Social

Being social is another vital step to maintain good health. A strong social support network shows great help in living longer, good mental health, and staying healthy. If you feel tired or sad, socializing and meeting new people can help lift your spirit.

There are plenty of changes you can make to revive your health and be in your best shape. Doing one or all of these changes will undoubtedly make you a step closer to a healthier you. Remember, the great quote from Mahatma Gandhi ”It is health that is the real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver.”
