*A teenage TikTok star is catching heat after sharing her “new” song that was actually a cover of Ashanti’s “Foolish.”
Danielle Cohn, 16, is getting clowned by Ashanti fans after she seemingly referred to “Foolish” as her own song, rather than a cover. She’s even selling merchandise to promote the single.
When she posted a clip of her lip-syncing to her version of the song, she failed to give Ashanti credit for the original.
Check out the clip below.

Cohn first gained online attention for videos in which she lip-synced along to famous tracks back in 2016. BuzzFeed News did a feature on her in 2018 about her online fame and Hollywood dreams.
“Make a TikTok to my new song,” Cohn captioned her TikTok of the “Foolish” track (screenshot above).
Fans were quick to criticize her for not making clear that it is a cover of Ashanti’s hit from 2002. She was also called out for selling merchandise to promote the single:

— please stop quoting this with “iTz a CovEr.” I’m not dumb I know what a cover is. And I never said it wasn’t. She didn’t give Ashanti Credit on TikTok initially, she said “MY NEW SONG.” and she made Merchandise to Sell & Make a Profit off of “Her New Song.” PUHLEASE stfu. pic.twitter.com/FVurSerOOz

Cohn eventually addressed the backlash, stating simply “Do people not understand what a cover is,” she wrote.

Ashanti needs to sue this little broad. The fucking audacity! First you steal her entire song and then tried to say it was a cover & now you’re also trying to make a profit off of merch. Smdh pic.twitter.com/MfwyqzbNuu

Do YOU not understand you need permission and proper credits to an artist to cover their use? Yet Ashanti’s name is not at all in your song credits but yeah… sure girl. pic.twitter.com/h4YqnXSqEE
