*Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Dr. Steve Perry have launched their new charter school Capital Prep Bronx, which aims to serve disadvantaged students.
Nearly 200 middle schoolers (6th and 7th graders) are enrolled for the fall semester, which kicks off Sept. 8 with a fully remote schedule. The goal is to expand the student body to 650 students from grades 6 to 11, Complex reports.
“My dream has always been to provide children in communities like the Bronx the high quality education they deserve,” Diddy said in a press release. “We’re not just teaching reading, math and coding. We are grooming future leaders that will change their communities and the world.”
In 2018, Combs pledged $1 million toward the established of the Bronx charter school — check out the video announcement he made at the time below.

Capital Prep Bronx is the third school within the Capital Preparatory Schools network, which includes Capital Prep Harbor in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Capital Prep Harlem, where in 2016 Diddy said in a speech to students and faculty: “Great schools and great education make a big difference. Unfortunately, too many people don’t get the opportunity to succeed, no matter how hard they try. This is leveling the playing field here at Capital Prep.”
Diddy and Perry intend to expand the Capital Preparatory Schools network in the upcoming years.
“We couldn’t be more excited to open our next school together in Co-Op city, a community rooted in social justice and diversity,” Perry said. “While opening up remote at first is bittersweet, we have developed a best in class approach to online learning we are excited to implement with our new families. The Capital Prep college prep model is perfectly poised to transition into the digital space and we are excited to deliver a rigorous education to this inaugural class of scholars.”
The Bad Boy mogul previously explained why he’s launching charter schools.
“It’s about educating our children, bringing them up as leaders, bringing them up to fight for social justice, preparing them for this world that we live in,” he said.
Capital Prep says that its mission is to provide “historically disadvantaged students with the college and career readiness skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.”
