Rochester Mayor Suspends Cops in Prude Arrest/Death & Says Police Chief Said He Died from Overdose / WATCH

*The mayor of Rochester, NY is not messing around with her police department regarding the death of Daniel Prude who died after officers placed a hood over his head and pressed his face onto the pavement until he stopped breathing.

As far as those officers involved in the arrest of Prude back in March, they have all been suspended, Mayor Lovely Warren announced on Thursday at a press conference which you can see via the player above.

Their immediate suspension comes less than one day after Prude’s family released horrifying police bodycam footage of his final moments, and five months after the 41-year-old man’s death.

The mayor also revealed that Police Chief La’Ron Singletary told her that Daniel Prude died from an apparent drug overdose back in March.

“When our officers responded on March 23, I was informed that day by Chief Singletary that Mr. Prude had an apparent drug overdose while in custody,” Mayor Warren said. “Chief Singletary never informed me of the actions of his officers to forcible restrain Mr. Prude. I only learned of those officer’s actions on August 4 when corporation counsel reviewed the video while fulfilling the FOIL request from Mr. Prude’s attorney. At no time, prior to August 4, did Chief Singletary, or anyone, make me aware or show me the video of the actions of the RPD officers involved in Mr. Prude’s death.”

Mayor Warren said the chief has since been reprimanded for his actions. However, at this time it is not known what punishment, if any, the chief faces.

Prude was left brain dead after his March 23 encounter with Rochester PD. He died seven days later when he was taken off life support.

All of the officers have now been suspended immediately with pay, pending the outcome of an investigation conducted by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
