Dawnn Lewis Calls New Animated TV Character ‘Mischievous’ & Urges Everyone to Vote! / WATCH

*Dawnn Lewis has been in the acting game since 1987 with many voiceover roles so it comes at no surprise that she’s a part of the new “Star Trek: Lower Decks” animation series.

“I’ve been doing voices for animated series for more than thirty years,” Lewis laughs, “I really don’t have a preference I’m really grateful that I get to do it all.” She says about doing both on-screen and voiceover

EURweb correspondent Monique Loveless sat down with Dawnn, over a virtual interview to discuss her new character Captain Carol Freeman as Lewis also urges everyone to go out and vote.

“Star Trek: Lower Decks” is set in the Star Trek universe, about 10 years after the events of The Next Generation, and focuses on the lowest-ranking officers on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos. Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) is easily agitated, tries too hard, and doesn’t understand why his rigorous rule-following goes ignored by bold Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis). Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) like most geniuses wings it, lives by her own rules and has no interest in being apart of their ranks. Then there’s Tendi (Noël Wells), a medical officer from the planet Orion, and Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), a human engineer still adjusting to things.

Written by Mike McMahan, the animated comedy series has received some harsh reviews by fans and critics who love the Star Trek world.

“It’s a cartoon relax!” she exclaims, “Laugh a little bit and understand this may be a lighter side of what you’re accustomed to seeing.” Lewis continues, “ The things that are included in the show from the devices we use to the uniforms we wear I think are very true to the world of Star Trek.”

Even though the Major Crimes star tells people to chill out about animation there’s one thing she encourages everyone to get serious about and that’s voting.

“The one thing I want to say is that life is beautiful, life is challenging but it’s in our hands to make the most of it and to make a difference,” Lewis speaks on. “So whoever you choose to vote for please vote.”

“Star Trek: Lower Decks” is streaming now on on CBS All Access. Make sure you catch up on demand and tune in every Friday for new episodes.
