The (Video) Journal of Steffanie Rivers: You and the 2020 U.S. Census

*If you’ve ever wondered why it seems some states get more federal funds for their districts than others, why some school districts get more money per student than schools in your districts or why some states have more representatives in Congress than others, it comes down to population.

The larger the population the more federal funds that are allocated. Every ten years federal and state governments tally residents to decide who gets what percentage of federal dollars based on population growth. It’s called the U.S. Census. Time is running out to be included in that count. The good news is everyone who resides in the United States in April 2020 can be included in the count. The bad news is some people – namely President Donald Trump – want to skew the count.

Trump practices classism, sexism and racism. He cares more about offering tax breaks to the rich while offering little to nothing to working class families. He gave wealth campaign donors coveted appointments in his administration, while career civil servants get fired!

Several woman have accused him of sexual harassment, and in his own words Trump admitted to grabbing women by their vaginas when it suits him.

His immigration policies against Black and Brown people from places he considers as ‘shit-hole countries’ was an early indication of his racist views. And his directive to tear-gas peaceful ‘Black Lives Matter’ protesters while calling white Neo Nazi protesters ‘very fine people’ proves he’s a racist. I don’t have to read any books about him to come to that obvious conclusion. If Trump had his way only rich white people would be counted in the 2020 Census.

But he’s not going to have his way if I can help it! If you haven’t already completed and mailed your 2020 U.S. Census form or you never received it, don’t wait any longer. Do it online today. Go to My2020Census.gov. It takes just ten minutes to fill out the information and submit online. Remind everyone you know to do it today! Like and share this video.
