Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have ‘Endless Gratitude’ to Tyler Perry for Providing ‘Safe Haven’

*Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have “endless gratitude” to Tyler Perry for allowing them to live in his Los Angeles estate with their 1-year-old son as they transitioned out of their senior roles with the British royal family.

“They’re really grateful to Tyler Perry for his kindness,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “They have endless gratitude to him for helping them during a complicated time.”

Tyler’s $18M property boasts eight bedrooms, 12-bathrooms and sits on 22 acres at the top of a hill in a guard-gated community, according to E! News,

Some say Oprah Winfrey is the connection between Perry and the couple.

“Meghan and Harry have been extremely cautious to keep their base in LA under wraps,” a friend of the couple’s told the Daily Mail. “’Beverly Ridge has its own guarded gate and Tyler’s property has a gate of its own which is watched by their security team. Beverly Ridge is an excellent place to keep out of view. The neighbors are mostly old money and mega-rich business types rather than show business gossips.”

Perry previously noted his admiration for Markle. In a January interview with the website Level, he mentioned her controversial interview with Tom Bradby in South Africa.

“Remember when Meghan Markle did that interview?” he asked. “She said, ‘Thanks for asking if I’m okay. Because no one ever asks me that.’ I felt her when she said that…. People toss it out. ‘How are you doing?’ But not many people really mean it.”

“With COVID and as they were stepping back from their royal duties, he provided them a safe haven,” the source adds.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have now moved into their “permanent home” in Santa Barbara.

On Wednesday, the couple volunteered with the L.A.-based national non-profit organization, Baby2Baby, to distribute essential supplies to local families (see images above).

During their time in L.A., Meghan and Harry have also been serving the community by delivering meals to the most vulnerable through Project Angel Food.

“What Meghan said is she wanted to show Harry Los Angeles through the eyes of philanthropy. It’s just beautiful,” Richard Ayoub, Project Angel Food’s executive director, previously told PEOPLE. “There’s obviously a great deal of love and selflessness between them.”
