*“Better Call Saul” co-creator Peter Gould says the upcoming final season of the series will have a “Breaking Bad” tie-in that may surprise fans of the former AMC series.
During a Zoom session with Daniel Fienberg for the Hollywood Reporter, Gould was asked how the creative team is approaching the end of Saul while being mindful of how the character also shaped “Breaking Bad.”
“In some ways, the fun of it is trying to make it all fit together and to make Better Call Saul its own coherent story in itself,” Gould said, per Complex. “And yet also, kind of create a frame around Breaking Bad. I think by the time you finish watching Better Call Saul, you’re going to see Breaking Bad in a very different light. I think we’re going to learn things about the characters in Breaking Bad that we didn’t know. We’re going to learn things about the events of Breaking Bad that we didn’t know.”
Gould said the fates of certain characters may “throw them into a different light,” adding “I don’t know if all the joints are going to be absolutely even. I’d sure hope so,” he said. “We’re going to do our best to sand it down.”
The series is a spin-off prequel of “Breaking Bad,” both created by Vince Gilligan. “Better Call Saul” follows the story of small-time lawyer James “Jimmy” McGill (Bob Odenkirk) six years before his appearance on “Breaking Bad” as Saul Goodman.
The series co-stars Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut (reprising his “Breaking Bad” role), Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler, Patrick Fabian as Howard Hamlin, and Giancarlo Esposito reprising his character Gus Fring from “Breaking Bad”.
“The way I sort of see Gus is that, you know, you’re not who you think you are. We as human beings in general, sometimes we have different agendas, and we go about achieving our goals in different ways,” Esposito said during the 2017 winter TCA. So Gus is very clear in where we left him. He was a guy who wanted revenge, he was a guy who wanted to create a business, but he was also someone who was very caring about his family of business people. And so, for me, I am looking forward to see where we do go with it,” he explained.
“And sometimes it’s more exciting to have a character that’s a little bit more mysterious that you don’t know so much about, and we’re left with wanting to know more, and we unroll it in a way that will leave you with a thirst. We’re in a show that’s very unexpected. Jimmy McGill, who is a character that you look at and you think he could be one way, and just when you think he’s moving toward that, you know, slopping off all of those old kinds of characteristics that you’ve seen, he comes right back to a place where you go, you’re surprised by it. So I’m hoping that Gustavo Fring will be similar in that way and resemble that kind of trajectory as well.”
The final season of “Better Call Saul” is expected to air in early 2021.
Japan Nike Ad on Bullying, Racism Sparks Calls for Boycott [VIDEO]
*A video ad from Nike Japan against bullying and racism has sparked calls to boycott the company.
The ad, “Keep Moving: Yourself, the Future,” released on Nov 30, features biracial athletes and minorities of Korean descent. The commercial shows several teen girls bullied in school over their differences, but they ultimately find confidence through their athletics, namely soccer.
The video has been viewed 14.1 million times on Nike Japan’s Twitter feed and has garnered plenty of critical comments.

As noted by Reuters, Nike Japan noted on its website: “We have long listened to minority voices, supported and spoken for causes that fit our values. We believe sports have the power to show what a better world looks like, to bring people together and encourage action in their respective communities.”
Meanwhile, successfu mixed-race athletes such as tennis star Naomi Osaka are challenging the country’s racially homogeneous imgae.
Osaka, who was born in Japan, rose to fame after beating Serena Williams in the 2018 U.S. Open.
Earlier this year, she surpassed Williams as the highest paid female athlete, earning $37.4 million in the past 12 months via tournament payouts and endorsement deals.
“To those outside the tennis world, Osaka is a relatively fresh face with a great backstory,” David Carter, a sports business professor at USC’s Marshall School of Business, told Forbes. “Combine that with being youthful and bicultural, two attributes that help her resonate with younger, global audiences, and the result is the emergence of a global sports marketing icon.”
As noted by Yahoo, “Osaka’s $37.4 million in prize money and endorsements is also the highest ever for a female athlete, passing the $29.7 million payday Maria Sharapova earned in 2015,” according to the report.
“I’m really interested in seeing a young business grow and adding value to that process,” Osaka told Forbes last year. “I tasked my team with finding brands that align with my personality and my interests.”

Tyrese Says He and Dwayne Johnson Haved Squashed 3-year Feud [VIDEO]
*Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Tyrese have reportedly ended their 3-year feud.
The two actors’ public beef first began in 2017 when Tyrese publicly criticized The Rock for signing on to do a spinoff of the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
At the time, Tyrese called Dwayne “selfish” for agreeing to do the “Hobbs & Shaw,” spinoff. The two starred in four “Fast & Furious” films together and Tyrese also said Johnson wouldn’t respond to his text messages despite the two having been friends.
Dwayne previously said it was “pretty disappointing” that Tyrese made their disagreement so public.
“I always feel like a beef requires two people to actually jump in it, and it was really one-sided, and he had voiced his opinion a lot on social media,” Dwayne said. “Apparently, he was going through some stuff too in his personal life. We haven’t talked and I don’t see where we would, and to me, there’s no need to have a conversation.”
Now, it seems things have apparently cooled between the two men.
“We talked,” Tyrese told Comedy Central’s Stir Crazy with Josh Horowitz this week. “We talked for at least four hours. It was great.”
“What’s interesting about ‘The Fast and The Furious’ is it’s not about any of us individually,” he continued, speaking specifically about the franchise’s spinoffs. “We’re like the UN at this point. Everyone gets to go to the theater and say, ‘He and she looks like me.’ If I did it with [Ludacris’ Tej], then who are we going to play off of? I could not just make it about me. I just could not.”
What do you think of Tyrese’s take on the “Fast and Furious” franchise? Let us know in the comments.
