Set primarily over the course of a single day and night in New Orleans, “Project Power” follows an unlikely triumvirate of heroes as they seek to take down a shady government organization responsible for the creation of Power – a pill that can either give its users DNA-based superpower for a total of five minutes, or kill them instantly.
The science fiction thriller stars Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx and new-comer, Dominique Fishback. EUR correspondent Fahnia Thomas spoke with the duo about Fishback’s stellar performance and manifesting powers.
Q: What did you learn while working next to an Oscar winner?
DF: I aspire to have longevity and versatility [like him]. When I was young I journaled a lot and I wrote, ‘I just want to be like Jamie Foxx and how he takes care of his family.’ So to have actually been in a room with him and promoting our movie together is surreal! I feel blessed and honored.
JF: This young lady should be nicknamed ‘I’d like to thank the Academy.’ When she came onto set – I had already seen her work before – she did this thing. When it comes to emotional scenes sometimes actors need to go away and get themselves together like, ‘I need to go to the forest’ but she would literally turn on [her emotions in the moment] and it would be so real. I called my sister and said, ‘this girl is about to be a wrap.’ I’m thankful I got a chance to work with her because I want to be in the audience clapping [when she wins the Academy Award].
The film also stars Courtney B. Vance, Chika, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rodrigo Santoro, Colson Baker, Allen Maldonado, and Amy Landecker.
“Project Power” releases globally on Netflix August 14.
