Should Christians be Involved in Politics? A New Heart!
*2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) New King James Version 17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Our last issue ended with a question “What would you do for a person who is naked, destitute having nothing to eat?” Remember, James 2:14-16, the scriptural text from last week’s issue. What was your answer?
Christians believe once a person has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, they become a new person. They are no longer the old person they use to be. They have been changed with a new heart! The sinfulness and selfishness the old person condoned/committed without a second thought now brings conviction from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit now dwells inside the new person; He brings conviction regarding sin. Remember last week we discussed Christian Faith which is trust, confidence, assurance, and belief in God. With this belief, the new person with a new heart now feels “utter repulsion” regarding their sin.
Ezekiel was a prophet of God who gave the following message to the Israelites during their captivity in Babylon. Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
It is the new heart that was given thru Faith in God that brings on the Works. So, what does “Works” look like when Christians are involved in politics? Our next issue will discuss Works!
