*Toluige Olokoobi Babalola, the Nigerian mother who filmed her bawling son begging her to “calm down” and “rest a little” as he was about to get a spanking, is speaking out amid accusations that she’s physically abusive.

Speaking via Instagram, Toluige said she made the video to show how her son goes into dramatics whenever he’s threatened with punishment. She said, “This video was done to show how my intelligent son use to dramatics and negotiate any time you want to spank him, not for abuse of any kind. Thank you Everyone for your concern.”

After several minutes of begging and telling his mom, “You must rest!” to no avail, he got down on his knees and continued pleading even more. But Babalola was not budging. The video ends before it’s known whether or not she changed her mind.

Governor of Lagos State, Jide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed his desire to meet the boy, citing his “sobriety” and “self restraint” as something Lagosians should emulate, at this time the world is combating the scourge of COVID-19.

He said: “I urge every Lagosian to ‘calm down’ and not get carried away by the ‘excitement of the moment’. Like the rest of the world, we are still in the middle of a pandemic and need to remain extremely careful to keep the gains of the sacrifices we have all made in the past months. Let’s calm down!”
