Suspect shoots former college football player Malachi Capers outside a Queens bodega – surveillance video released by NYPD

*A college student and former college football player is in critical condition after accidentally bumping a man in a Queens, New York deli, and being shot by the man in retaliation.

Malachi Capers, 20, is a former defensive end at Division III Buffalo State. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive. Surveillance video of the incident from two cameras – one inside the bodega, and the other outside – has been shared on social media by NYPD Chief Rodney Harrison in a plea for information about the suspect, Jeffrey Thurston, who remains at large.

Capers’ bump of Thurston appears to be accidental. However, Thurston reacts and starts an argument that gets physical when he punches Capers in the face. Capers chases Thurston outside and they continue tussling on the ground. The video then transitions to Thurston producing a pistol and shooting Capers once in the abdomen.
