*Rumored lovebirds Lena Waite and Cynthia Erivo are collaborating on the upcoming musical drama “Talent Show” from Universal Pictures.
The story hails from Duane Adler, the writer behind “Step Up,” and follows a “failed songwriter who returns home to Chicago to lead a group of at-risk youth in their annual talent show.”
In addition to writing the final script, Waithe will serve as executive producer and Gandja Monteiro will direct, Complex reports.
George Tillman Jr. and Robert Teitel will produce for their State Street Pictures.
Erivo, a Tony/Golden Globe-winner and two-time Oscar nominee, is a singer/songwriter best known for her roles in “Harriet” and the National Geographic series on Aretha Franklin. She also stars in HBO’s “The Outsider.”

Earlier this year Waite and her ex-wife Alana Mayo, announced their separation. Amidst the divorce proceedings, reports swirled that the “Queen & Slim” writer began directing Erivo.
“After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” Lena and Alana said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
The former couple dated for over two years before secretly tying the knot last August.
According to Love B Scott, their marriage was doomed from the start because Lena was unfaithful, so to “placate Alana and salvage their relationship”, Lena agreed to get married. Never a good reason to get married. And then, supposedly, after they married, Lena was still cheating and “buying designer gifts for other women”.
Meanwhile, Erivo made no secret about her love for Waithe in social media posts.
In one photo, the actress wrote: “I finally found my sis. Lena you are absolutely everything. You are perfection. What a meeting of minds, glad to have you in my life! Stuck like glue !!! SHINE QUEEN SHINE!!”
Erivo previously dated actors Dean John-Wilson and Mario Martinez.
