With Hands Up (& Laying on the Ground) Lorenzo Jones Shot by Cops / WATCH

*Another day, another black man gets shot by police with bean bags while his hands are up and while he’s on the ground writhing from the first shot.

This is no hypothetical situation as it actually happened on Friday (07-17-20) in Mesa, Arizona to a man named Lorenzo Jones during an argument with his girlfriend and her sister, while 5 children watched nearby, according to a TMZ report.

The backstory is that  Jones was supposed to appear in court earlier in the day but failed to show, so an arrest warrant was issued. The video shows cops confronting Jones at his residence where he tried telling them (the cops) that he had indeed shown up at the courthouse.

Looks like the cops didn’t care ’cause they gave orders for Jones to surrender, but when he put his hands up to comply, one of the officers fired a bean bag round that hit Jones squarely in his torso, causing him to fall to the ground in pain.

Apparently that wasn’t enough for the cops because as Jones lay on the ground, SWAT fired 2 more rounds, hitting him both times.

Lorenzo Jones getting shot
Lorenzo Jones gets shot by Mesa, AZ police even though he had his hands in the air.

For what it’s worth, the Mesa Police Dept. is investigating  the shooting, but you can believe that, based on the comments of  Police Chief Ken Cost, they’re going to find a way to blame Jones: “They [the cops] felt that he was armed and dangerous.”

Wait. Hold up. Remember, Jones was shot when he had his hands up in the air and when he was laying on the ground.

“Less-lethal tools are exactly that, less lethal, and were developed to prevent violent actions, protect the public, save the lives of suspects as well as officers,” was Chief Cost’s response.

The bottom line … as we predicted: They threw the book at Jones, arresting him for aggravated assault on an officer, 3 counts of aggravated assault on a minor, resisting arrest, marijuana possession, assault causing fear of physical injury.
