*Founder and General Manager of The Gardner Law Group in Baltimore, Paul Gardner, II, signs on to speak on the entertainment industry panelist at the 21st annual Los Angeles “Uplifting Minds II” Entertainment Conference on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 1-3pmPT via Zoom Video Conferencing. The conference is forced to go-online this year to address the venue closings because of the health pandemic, but it is allowing the long-time sponsor and panelist of the Baltimore “ULMII” conference, to consult to aspiring artists in the Los Angeles area.

Known by most industry heavy-hitters, and especially those from the Maryland area such as Dru Hill and SisQo, Paul has served as counsel for Outkast,  Grammy winning Mya, Bizzy Bones (Bones Thugs and Harmony), lead guitarist BiBi McGill (leader of Beyonce’ girl band), Dr. Ben Chavis (NAACP), and comedian/actor Tommy Davidson. Gardner will bring all those experiences with him when he speaks at the Los Angeles “ULMII” panel.

Paul received his JD from Howard University and immediately started working at DLA Piper Rudnick, LLC, where he had the chance to practiced law. He became proficient in business and commercial law, and science and technology law. Gardner soon after started his own firm catering to mainly those in the entertainment industry. It was during his switch from Rudnick to the Gardner Law Group that he came on board as a sponsor and panelist of the “Uplifting Minds II” community event. Regular panelists included Beyonce’s father and manager (at that time) Mathew Knowles, Jazz and Woody of Dru Hill, and their manager Kevin Peck, when Paul came on board. Over 15 years later Paul is still providing his very expensive consul free to the community via the “Uplifting Minds II” conference. The “ULMII” Entertainment Conference offers an “Industry Panel Q&A Session,” a “Professional Showcase” and it ends with the “Talent Competition” where 10 aspiring singers, songwriters, dancers or actors get four minutes to perform for a chance to walk away with over $15,000 valued in prizes.

Through the years talent has credited “ULMII” for helping to launch their careers in the entertainment business. Los Angeles “ULMII” competitor Miguel was signed by one of the “ULMII” panelists and today he is a Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter. Baltimore “ULMII” competitor Naturi Naughton was scouted by Broadway at the event. From Broadway she joined the R&B group 3LW and from there Naturi landed a starring role on the STARZ series “Power”. Los Angeles “ULMII” competitor RoShon Fegan’s manager said what he learned from the panelist helped him take RoShon to “the next level.”  That next level led to a co-starring role on Disney’s “Shake It Up”, then a starring role on Disney’s “Camp Rock”, which led to him starring on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”.  In Baltimore the Featherstone Brothers said in an interview with the City Paper that it was their performance at “ULMII” that resulted in their success. The song they performed at “ULMII” was heard by SisQo (Dru Hill)  there to support “ULMII” panelist Jazz and he placed it on the third Dru Hill album as “I Should Be (Your Boyfriend).” The song was released as the first single on the album with accompanying music video – it went platinum. The Featherstone brothers went on to write and produce songs for such heavy-hitters as Chris Brown.

The “ULMII” Entertainment Conference will be hosted by Magic 95.9FM’s Ms. D (Doresa Harvey) and DJ Rick (GSE).

Through the years panelists have included Grammy winning Brenda Russell (“Piano in the Dark”); Hip-Hop legend MCLyte; Jazz and Woody of Dru Hill; comedian/actor Kel Mitchell (The GoodBurger), and actress/singer KeKe Palmer (“True Jackson, VP”).
