*Founder and General Manager of The Gardner Law Group in Baltimore, Paul Gardner, II, signs on to speak on the entertainment industry panelist at the 21st annual Los Angeles “Uplifting Minds II” Entertainment Conference on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 1-3pmPT via Zoom Video Conferencing. The conference is forced to go-online this year to address the venue closings because of the health pandemic, but it is allowing the long-time sponsor and panelist of the Baltimore “ULMII” conference, to consult to aspiring artists in the Los Angeles area.

Known by most industry heavy-hitters, and especially those from the Maryland area such as Dru Hill and SisQo, Paul has served as counsel for Outkast,  Grammy winning Mya, Bizzy Bones (Bones Thugs and Harmony), lead guitarist BiBi McGill (leader of Beyonce’ girl band), Dr. Ben Chavis (NAACP), and comedian/actor Tommy Davidson. Gardner will bring all those experiences with him when he speaks at the Los Angeles “ULMII” panel.

Paul received his JD from Howard University and immediately started working at DLA Piper Rudnick, LLC, where he had the chance to practiced law. He became proficient in business and commercial law, and science and technology law. Gardner soon after started his own firm catering to mainly those in the entertainment industry. It was during his switch from Rudnick to the Gardner Law Group that he came on board as a sponsor and panelist of the “Uplifting Minds II” community event. Regular panelists included Beyonce’s father and manager (at that time) Mathew Knowles, Jazz and Woody of Dru Hill, and their manager Kevin Peck, when Paul came on board. Over 15 years later Paul is still providing his very expensive consul free to the community via the “Uplifting Minds II” conference. The “ULMII” Entertainment Conference offers an “Industry Panel Q&A Session,” a “Professional Showcase” and it ends with the “Talent Competition” where 10 aspiring singers, songwriters, dancers or actors get four minutes to perform for a chance to walk away with over $15,000 valued in prizes.

Through the years talent has credited “ULMII” for helping to launch their careers in the entertainment business. Los Angeles “ULMII” competitor Miguel was signed by one of the “ULMII” panelists and today he is a Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter. Baltimore “ULMII” competitor Naturi Naughton was scouted by Broadway at the event. From Broadway she joined the R&B group 3LW and from there Naturi landed a starring role on the STARZ series “Power”. Los Angeles “ULMII” competitor RoShon Fegan’s manager said what he learned from the panelist helped him take RoShon to “the next level.”  That next level led to a co-starring role on Disney’s “Shake It Up”, then a starring role on Disney’s “Camp Rock”, which led to him starring on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”.  In Baltimore the Featherstone Brothers said in an interview with the City Paper that it was their performance at “ULMII” that resulted in their success. The song they performed at “ULMII” was heard by SisQo (Dru Hill)  there to support “ULMII” panelist Jazz and he placed it on the third Dru Hill album as “I Should Be (Your Boyfriend).” The song was released as the first single on the album with accompanying music video – it went platinum. The Featherstone brothers went on to write and produce songs for such heavy-hitters as Chris Brown.

The “ULMII” Entertainment Conference will be hosted by Magic 95.9FM’s Ms. D (Doresa Harvey) and DJ Rick (GSE).

Through the years panelists have included Grammy winning Brenda Russell (“Piano in the Dark”); Hip-Hop legend MCLyte; Jazz and Woody of Dru Hill; comedian/actor Kel Mitchell (The GoodBurger), and actress/singer KeKe Palmer (“True Jackson, VP”).

Must See: Mike Tyson Stuns Lil Boosie: Asks Rapper If it’s Possible He’s ‘A Homosexual’ / WATCH

Mike Tyson - Lil Boosie1

Mike Tyson – Lil Boosie

*Poor Lil Boosie. Like they say on the streets, he ain’t see it comin’. No he didn’t. Dude had no clue that Mike Tyson, of all people, was gonna blow his mind.

All Tyson did was brilliantly ask the Louisiana rapper something that social media has been asking him for years,  but of course it was never to his face and it came via a physical force that’s also intimidating.

Anyway, Lil Boosie, as you know (if you follow him) has VERY STRONG opinions on gay and transgender people. Remember the incident not too long ago where damn near demanded that  Dwyane Wade not cut off his son-now daughter’s penis.

With no hesitation, Tyson incisively and quietly  asked Boosie is it possible he is a “homosexual” and that is why he lashes out.

Boosie stuttered a bit before answering.

Below is the full interview followed by some of the Twitter reactions.

Larry Buford: Judgment or Test? America’s Job Experience

Job in Bible
Job in the Bible

Illustration of Job in the Bible

*[This is a chapter from my book, “Things Are Gettin’ Outta Hand, first published in 2007. Although many other tragic events have happened in the 13 years since then, including the current global pandemic, I think it is still relevant as history continues to repeat itself]

Breaking news: Bridge Collapses, Victims Killed; Miner’s Trapped, Victims Killed; Record Flooding, Victims Killed; Senseless Shooting, Victims Killed; Raging Fires, Victims Killed; and the list goes on!!

While it seems like all hell is breaking loose, one may ask, is America being judged or tested?

The biblical character Job received (heart) “breaking news” [Job chapter 1]: “And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword…While he was speaking, there also came another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them…”

In the end, Job had received back-to-back reports from four different messengers that he had suffered great losses including his children. Job even lost his health, but eventually regained everything even more in abundance. It was a test to see if Job would deny God.

Prior to the 911 tragedy, we seldom heard of God or Jesus in mainstream media. Since then it has become acceptable, and more and more prevalent with each new turn of tragic events. Is God testing America to see if we truly are a Christian nation? Or is this judgment on a nation that has turned its back towards God?

If it’s a test, we as a nation should hold steadfast our convictions as did Job. If judgment, God says in II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

There is yet hope for America!

*If you haven’t heard, rapper Offset was almost arrested while live-streaming himself driving through a pro-Trump rally on Saturday.

Yep, the guy who’s currently married to Cardi B, was pulled over by Beverly Hills police after he drove through a crowd of Trump supporters and allegedly waved a handgun.

Beverly Hills police surrounded Offset’s vehicle with guns drawn. He refused orders to take his hand off his steering wheel and turn off the engine.

Offset: “I’m not finna do that.”

Cop: “Why not?”

“Because you got guns out. I’m not finna move my hands from my steering wheel.”

Offset live-streamed the traffic stop, telling police “Do you know who I am? I’m Offset from the Migos!”

Here’s another view.

When a female officer told him he was seen waving a gun in the air, Offset said, “You just watched somebody beat my car up with a flag. What are you talking about?”

Another officer approached the car, reached in the driver’s side window and unlocked the car door. The officer then snatched Offset out of the vehicle. We’ve learned that he was only detained and eventually released.

Beverly Hills police also confirmed they detained a man for pointing a gun at Trump supporters.

Apparently they man they arrested for possession of a concealed loaded weapon is Marcelo Almanzar, Cardi B’s cousin.
