*(Los Angeles, CA) – With an abundance of caution, The Living Legends Foundation, Inc.® has chosen to postpone the 2020 Awards Dinner & Gala scheduled for Friday, October 9. 2020 to Friday, October 8, 2021.
The 2021 date will coincide with the 30th Anniversary Celebration and will once again be held at Taglyan Cultural Complex, 1201 North Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
The foundation’s core mission is to honor pioneers and professionals who have broken new ground in the areas of broadcasting, recorded music, marketing, retail, publicity, publishing, digital, creative, and philanthropy. The illustrious 2021 honorees will include: Ronald “Baby” Williams & Bryan “Slim” Williams, co-founders of Cash Money, who will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award; Charlamagne Tha God, entertainment personality, author and co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show The Breakfast Club with DJ Envy and Angela Yee will receive the Jerry Boulding Radio Award; Geo Bivins, Executive Vice-President/General Manager, RCA Records will receive the Music Executive Award; Johnnie Walker, Founder, and CEO of the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment, Inc. (NABFEME) will receive the Mike Bernardo Female Executive Award; Tuma Basa, Director, Urban Music at YouTube will receive the Digital Executive Award; Sharon Heyward, Music industry veteran (Perspective, Virgin and Harmony Records) will receive the A.D. Washington Chairman’s Award; and Hank Caldwell, Music industry veteran (WEA, Atlantic, SOLAR, Epic, and Death Row Records) will receive The Founder’s Award.
“The Foundation was looking forward to celebrating this year’s stellar line-up of honorees” states Chairman David Linton. “Given the high risk associated with COVID-19 on African-Americans, our first priority is always the safety of our guests. The Gala represents our biggest annual fundraiser that allows us to do the work of assisting our industry colleagues who find themselves with financial hardships.”
Linton continues, “There’s a saying that ‘behind every cloud there’s a silver lining’ and thanks to a generous donation received from Sony/ATV Music Publishing, we are able to continue our work that has been amplified this year due to the pandemic. We are thankful to Chairman/CEO Jon Platt and Sony/ATV for their thoughtfulness and commitment to the entertainment community.”
Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Ray Harris, added, “The Living Legends Foundation is the oldest Black Music organization to date. I am humbled and profoundly grateful to the current and past Chairmen, Board of Directors, and Advisory Board members who have volunteered their time and efforts to carry my vision for the organization. We should all be proud of our efforts and the good we do. We are not done yet.”
The Foundation continues to conduct virtual events such as Salute To Black Radio for Black History Month, Salute to HBCUs for HBCU Awareness Month, and Living Legends Foundation Remembers for Black Music Month, which profiled industry executives who passed away in the past year.
