Soul Singer Sharon Paige (‘Hope That We Can Be Together Soon’) Has Died / VIDEO

*According to Facebook postings and a report at Soul Tracks.com, soul singer Sharon Paige, who came to fame as one of the lead singers of “Hope That We Can Be Together Soon” by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes in 1975, has died. Unfortunately, as of this posting, there are no details as to the cause of her passing or her age at death.

Although Paige was not a permanent member of the aggregation, she was a frequent collaborator who took on a larger role after the departure of lead singer Teddy Pendergrass, reports Soul Tracks.

Even though the song is mostly associated with Paige and The Bluenotes, according to Wikipedia, “Hope That We Can Be Together Soon is a song written by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff that was originally recorded by Dusty Springfield as “Let’s Get Together Soon” and was included in her 1970 album A Brand New Me. The track was produced by Gamble and Huff, as well.[1]

As we said up top, the song became a hit when it was released by Paige and The Blue Notes in 1975. Unlike most of the group’s singles from this time period, Melvin, along with Paige handles most of the vocal duties, while Teddy Pendergrass appears for one line and the closing part of the song.

In 1976, Pendergrass left the group for what would be a very successful solo career. However, the opposite happened for the group. Meanwhile, Paige took a more prominent role on the second post-Pendergrass LP, 1980’s The Blue Album, but it barely charted. Paige also released a few solo songs, including the beautiful “You Don’t Even Know My Name.”
