*The long-awaited film version of “Hamilton,” is now streaming on Disney+. The rousing musical with a hip hop backdrop is right up in your face, with no aisles or strangers between you and the screen.
And what a welcome treat for those who could not get tickets to the sold-out Broadway shows at the Richard Rodgers theater in New York. Besides, some tickets were as much as $800.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s bold and bodacious film boasts black and brown actors in the roles of America’s white founding fathers. The superb cast vividly enacts Miranda’s vision with verve.
Premiering a day before July 4th, “Hamilton” is a reminder that America’s esteemed founding fathers have besmirched legacies. The freedom they fought for was not allowed to their slaves and women.

How ironic that words such as, “liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” would only apply to some and not all. Hamilton’s alternative staged history lesson has messages in its music—original and the mash-ups. With book, music, and lyrics by Miranda and direction by Thomas Kail, “Hamilton” is inspired by the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow.
Alexander Hamilton, born in the West Indies and rumored to be mixed, is played by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Hamilton’s nemesis, Aaron Burr, is portrayed by Leslie Odom, Jr. and Daveed Diggs is Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson. Also starring are Renee Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos, Phillipa Soo, and Carleigh Bettiol.
