*Actress/writer Lena Dunham agrees that “white privilege” is the primary reason she was able to star, write and executive produce her own HBO series at the age of 23.

“Whenever I found out I’m trending, I have to immediately check if I’m alive! Then, I try and see if there’s a constructive dialogue to have on Twitter. Often there isn’t, but today there really WAS,” she wrote on Twitter.

“It actually wasn’t a dialogue – it was just me agreeing that the Hollywood system is rigged in favor of white people and that my career took off at a young age with relative ease, ease I wasn’t able to recognize because I also didn’t know what privilege was,” Dunham added.

Dunham’s “Girls” followed a group of young white women living in New York City. It ran for six seasons on HBO, from 2012-2017, and won a Golden Globe Award in 2013.

As noted by PEOPLE, Lena began trending over the weekend after a past Hollywood Reporter interview surfaced of her admitting to not being prepared for the initial pitch meeting with HBO to discuss the series.

“I mean, it is the worst pitch you’ve ever read,” she said, revealing that she had not yet developed a character or overall plot for the show. “It was like, ‘They’re everything, they’re nothing, they’re everywhere, they’re nowhere.’ It’s pretentious and horrifying, but I remember sitting on the floor, listening to Tegan and Sara in my underwear, being like, ‘I’m a genius.’ “

Since the show ended, Dunham has made headlines for admitting that she molested her sister when they were younger. In 2016, she apologized for racially charged statements she made about Odell Beckham Jr.

In her newsletter Lenny, she said this about the NFL star:

I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like, “That’s a marshmallow. That’s a child. That’s a dog.” It wasn’t mean—he just seemed confused.

The vibe was very much like, “Do I want to [f—k] it? Is it wearing a … yep, it’s wearing a tuxedo. I’m going to go back to my cell phone.” It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, “This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.

On Sunday, Dunham tweeted,  “The past ten years have been a series of lessons. The lesson now? Sit down. Shut up, unless it’s to advocate for change for Black people,” she wrote. “Listen. Make art in private for awhile- no one needs your book right now lady. Give reparations widely. Defund the police. Rinse & repeat.”

Sounds like she’s being a bit sarcastic with that last line… ya think?
