Aaron Hernandez’s Alleged Prison Lover Speaks About Their Bromance in New Special

Aaron Hernandez

The media is back at obsessing over Aaron Hernandez’s sexuality.

Earlier this year, Netflix dropped a documentary in which it was suggested that the former former Patriots tight was bisexual. Now a former inmate who served time with late athlete, and claims the two were lover, is opening up about their bromance.

In the upcoming REELZ special, “Aaron Hernandez: Jailhouse Lover Tells All,” Kyle Kennedy calls the infamous NFL player “the most [loyal] person I’ve ever met.”

Hernandez was 27-years-old when he committed suicide in 2017 by hanging himself with a bed sheet in prison. He was found dead in his cell with “John 3:16” written across his forehead.

In 2015, he was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd—the boyfriend of Aaron’s wife’s (Shayanna Jenkins) sister. He was subsequently charged (and later acquitted) of a separate 2012 Boston double homicide, and accused of the near-fatal 2013 shooting of his friend Alexander Bradley

“Aaron killed himself, you know that was my right-hand man,” Kennedy said. “We used to do everything together.”

Kennedy said that he and Hernandez would “lock in to either cook food or smoke, get high, listen to music, just chill when we didn’t want to be around other people,” adding, “We used to write letters back and forth to each other all day.”

Kennedy describes himself as a “regular kid that grew up and I got sidetracked by drugs and gangs.”

He claims he and Aaron sold drugs and got high together every day while in prison.  However, an autopsy report conducted after Hernandez’s death revealed that he didn’t have any drugs in his system before he hanged himself, per Complex

Since his death, Hernandez’s sexuality remains up for debate for some.

Hernandez was allegedly in a lot of pain prior to his death; suffering from childhood trauma and other personal issues, including “conflicting feelings over the death of a man he claimed had abused him,” PEOPLE writes.  He also didn’t get along with his mother, Terri.

“One minute she was dead to him, the next minute, he wanted to call her to see how she was,” a former teammate previously shared with the outlet.

“Everything about Aaron was a struggle,” the teammate says. “He had these really angry outbursts a lot, over insignificant things. And when he started, he couldn’t stop.”

Hernandez also allegedly struggled with his sexuality.

“He wanted to be the big man on campus who was having sex with a lot of women, but then he’d find guys on the down low,” the teammate says. “The girls were public, the guys were not.”

“Aaron Hernandez: Jailhouse Lover Tells All” will air on July 5 at 8 p.m. ET on REELZ.
