*NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace joined Gayle King on “CBS This Morning” to discuss Tuesday’s announcement that the FBI and U.S. attorney found no federal crime was committed.
Wallace is the only full-time black driver at the top level, and discussed advocating and fighting for change in his sport.
Excerpts:
– On the FBI’s finding regarding the noose in his garage: “It was in fact the shape of a noose. The FBI backed that up 100%. Never thought I’d be talking to the FBI, but they said absolutely is a noose. Not a functioning noose, but it is a noose. They were curious why that was even hanging as well.”
Federal investigators say @NASCAR driver @BubbaWallace was not the target of a hate crime, following the discovery of a noose in his garage. They also say the noose had been in the garage since as early as October — before he was assigned to the space.

– “We’re all entitled to our opinions and, you know, a lot of people were unhappy with the removal of the confederate flag at NASCAR events… We’ll keep pushing the needle and fighting for what’s right in this sport. And I’ll continue to stand proudly where I am.”

– “I’m being tested each and every day throughout this whole matter, whether it’s right, wrong, or indifferent. You know — that’s how life is. People want to dethrone you from the pedestal that you’re on when you have a platform and when you have a voice.”

– On who is helping him move forward through this situation: “It’ll be alright… It will be okay. Honestly, the best medicine for me will be Saturday and Sunday when I am in the race and can get away from all the madness for a few hours.”
