J Lee, Jacquin Deleon, Produced Dark Comedy ‘aTypical Wednesday’ Touts Importance of Therapy

*Los Angeles, CA — During these dark and unpredictable times comes dark comedy aTypical Wednesday, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness, especially in the Black community.

The Jacquin Deleon produced film stars J. Lee, Michael Ealy, Seth Green, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Michael Mosley, Kelen Coleman, Bresha Webb, and Cooper Friedman.

The flick follows Gabe (Lee), a seemingly put-together, successful Black man in his 30s who has just discovered therapy. He sees his therapist (Ealy) every Wednesday to try to unpack his deep-rooted mommy and daddy issues, his estrangement from his perfect match (Raver-Lampam), and how to deal with his erratic ex (Webb). But one day he meets a 9-year-old kid named Alec (Friedman) who also sees a psychologist in the same building. Alec convinces Gabe that his mom forgot him at the office and they go on a winding misadventure that will help Gabe find his truth, help Alec find his worth, and help us laugh uncontrollably while examining our own preconceived notions about race, mental health, and life.

Deleon believes mental health needs to be destigmatized, especially in the Black community, saying:

“It’s okay to go through therapy, it’s okay to address trauma. Despite any triumphs Black men have achieved, any misunderstanding can lead to incarceration or worse. It is frustrating to think about. A lot of us want the American drama, but no matter what we do, we have this lens pointed at us. Therapy is an outlet we all need. It is extremely important.”

aTypical Wednesday is set for a virtual release Friday, June 26. Pre-sale is already available on Apple iTunes.

Gravitas Ventures will handle distribution rights of the Run Point Inc. project that sees J Lee as director, Stephen Love, and Jacquin Deleon producing. Exec producers are Lee, Jacquin Deleon, Badal Shah, Vaughn Moore, Charles A. Demirjian, and Jacquin Deleon.

About Jacquin Deleon: Decorated screenwriter, producer, and director in the film festival circuit. Deleon’s 2015 screenplay A Girl Like Grace starred Raven-Symoné, Meagan Good, Ryan Destiny, Garcelle Beauvais, and Romeo Miller and played at the Los Angeles Film Festival. In 2016, Deleon added producer to his name with Bushbaby, a comedy about gentrification. It was seen at New Black Voices, Tide Film Festival, Black Harvest, Indie Night Film Festival, and many more. Two years later, the Deleon-produced TV series 88 (proof of concept)  swept ITV Festival, nabbing the “Best Of Fest” award. Next on the producing front is aTypical Wednesday.

Deleon comes from humble beginnings. He grew up in a tough city (Camden, NJ) surrounded by crime and corruption, even having witnessed a burglar hold a knife to his mother’s throat. In his youth, he often moved around and spent many nights sleeping on the floor, but Deleon never lost sight of his dreams to work in film. Movies were his escape and he dreamed of creating the same escape for others.
