VTree Chef Velvet & Nick Cannon Host An Ode to Black Lives: A Juneteenth Celebration

*On June 19, V Tree restaurant business partners Chef Velvet Jacobs (aka “Chef Velvet”) and Nick Cannon will host an “Ode to Black Lives” celebration in honor of Juneteenth aka Freedom Day.

Juneteenth marks the emancipation of remaining slaves in the United States at the end of the Civil War.

The celebration will live stream on @thevtreehollywood Instagram with musical artists who will lift their voices in solidarity for justice and equality in the Black community. The event will feature Chika, Mumu Fresh, April Sampe, and Ayanna Gregory, the daughter of the late comedian, civil rights activist, and vegan icon Dick Gregory.

V Tree, a vegan soul-food eatery is a collaboration between actor, rapper, and television host Nick Cannon and Chef Velvet Jacobs (aka “Chef Velvet”). The new eatery offers southern inspired dishes with a side of cornbread.

For the social distancing friendly celebration, the restaurant is offering food for take out to be enjoyed in the expansive Yamashiro parking lot. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will go to “Our Own Life”, an organization working to empower local communities with access to mental, physical, and emotional support.

“An Ode to Black Lives” will take place from 5-8pm in the Yamashiro parking lot (1999 Sycamore Ave, Los Angeles, CA).
