Latice Crawford: Stellar Award Nominee Talks EPs, Life Purpose, and More

*Gospel singer Latice Crawford is making strides through music and her story.

The New York native and Stellar Award-nominated singer, stole the hearts of believers on BET’s singing competition “Sunday Best,” using her three-octave, contralto vocal range, finishing third on the second season.

Her self-titled debut album reached two Billboard charts, and the Top Gospel Albums chart. Her second album, “Diary of a Church Girl,” also appeared on the Top Gospel Albums chart. Latice dropped her Ep “Something Something” earlier this year. She shared the inspiration behind both songs.

“It’s weird because I was in two totally different places when I wrote both songs. For Amazing, a lot of people think the song is talking about the walls that we put up to keep other people out, or the wall we put up when we’re ashamed of something. I was talking about the wall we use as believers. The walls of grace, the walls of our pastors, the walls of our churches…The walls are symbolic and metaphoric for the four walls that are often talked about in church.”

She added …

“’Something, Something’ is about that moment of temptation. I was doing a play and I was in Jersey for a few months and I was away from my son and away from my family and I’m single. You have those late nights and you get a little lonely…I just was looking for something to fill the void.”

The singer often uses her personal experiences to inspire others through music and her everyday life. She’s found a way to use her past experiences to aid her in her passion.

“If you look at me you see someone who chose to overcome. I had a choice to accept my reality and decide what I wanted to do with it. These things happened to me. I can’t take them away. I can’t change them but, I can allow them to change me.”

When Latice isn’t singing she uses her time to assist others in various areas of their lives. She is a certified life coach and believes it is important to understand what’s going internally before interpreting a message.

“I wanted something that would create a whole life. While I think the music and the cooking and everything else works, I definitely feel being able to help people with their mental health and emotional health is important so they can even receive the rest of the message.”

During the stay at home order, Latice has been working on and trying new things. She also sees this time as a gift from God. Social media has been a tool for sharing recipes and weekly updates with her followers. In terms of new music, you can expect her new EP “The Cure” coming soon on all streaming platforms.

“I wanted to write music that wasn’t just for a believer. I wanted to write music for people. For humans that have all of these things. I want people to come to these songs. Identify with their symptoms. Look for the cure!”
