*Akon has bagged a $6 billion contract to build a cryptocurrency themed city in Senegal.

The singer shared the exciting news in a post on Instagram, writing, “KE International awarded US $6 Billion construction contract for Akon City.”

In a press release, KE International, the consulting firm that Akon is working with, announced that it “was awarded the contract to build and Execute US $6 Billion Akon City, Senegal.”

Akon’s “futuristic cryptocurrency themed” city will boast homes for residents, malls, hotels, parks, a school, universities, a police station, stadium and even a solar power plant.

The first phase of Akon City is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. Phase 2 will end in 2029 and will focus on integrating Akon’s AKOIN cryptocurrency.

Akon City is located on 2000 acres on the ocean, less than an hour drive South of the new International airport in Dakar.

The “Locked Up” singer previously dished about the massive project on Nick Cannon’s radio show.

“It’s Akon city. It’s all renewable, the Akon-tainment solar city. It’s all renewable. A real physical place, it’s going to have a real airport. It’s a 10-year building block so we’re doing it in stages. We started construction in March and stage two is going to be 2025,” he said.

Elsewhere in his chat with Cannon, Akon criticized billionaires who haven’t put their money toward similar efforts.

“I always felt like if you have to label yourself a billionaire, I don’t even think billionaires label themselves billionaires. Because you have no idea [how much you’re worth],” he said.

“When I hear stuff like that, it makes me sad in such a way because when I travel I see so many things that happen. So many people that need… things to be resolved. And if you have a billion dollars sitting in the bank, while you have all these people suffering, it’s crazy to me. It’s like a waste of a billion dollars.”

Akon City will be built on land gifted to the artist/entrepreneur from the President of Senegal.”

The entire construction for Akon City is expected to be completed in 2030.
