*Beyoncé has penned an open letter to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron demanding justice for Breonna Taylor.

Taylor, 26, was gunned down by Louisville police on March 13 during a botched raid. They fired more than 20 rounds into her apartment while trying to serve a “no-knock” warrant on a suspect who did not live in her home, and was already in custody, MSN reported. Taylor was shot 8 times.

“It was incredible that Mrs. Taylor was the only one killed,” said Rob Eggert, defense attorney for Talyor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.

Walker, a licensed gun owner, was inside the apartment at the time and he shot at officers when they attempted to enter without announcing themselves, according to the family’s lawsuit against the department. He was not injured in the incident, but was arrested and has since been released. The charges of first-degree assault and attempted murder of a police officer were also dropped.

“I want justice for her. I want them to say her name. There’s no reason Breonna should be dead at all,” said Tamika Palmer, Taylor’s mother.

In the letter, Beyoncé calls for the AG to arrest three police officers responsible for Taylor’s death: Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Officers Myles Cosgrove and Brett Hankison.

The singer writes, “Your office has both the power and the responsibility to bring justice to Breonna Taylor, and demonstrate the value of a Black woman’s life. I urge you to use that power.”

As noted by Complex, the music icon then outlines the next steps that Cameron should take:

1. Bring criminal charges against Jonathan Mattingly, Myles Cosgrove, and Brett Hankison.

2. Commit to transparency in the investigation and prosecution of these officers’ criminal conduct.

3. Investigate the LMPD’s response to Breonna Taylor’s murder, as well as the pervasive practices that result in the repeated deaths of unarmed Black citizens.
She concludes by writing, “Don’t let this case fall into the pattern of no action after a terrible tragedy. With every death of a Black person at the hands of the police, there are two real tragedies: the death itself, and the inaction and delays that follow it. This is your chance to end that pattern. Take swift and decisive action in charging the officers. The next months cannot look like the last three.”

Earlier this month, Louisville Metro Council passed “Breonna’s Law,” which bans “no-knock” warrants.
