*Atlanta’s Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is a household name for her authenticity and mama bear style of running the ATL, particularly through both COVID-19 and the early rioting that followed the killing of George Floyd. We’ve all seen her viral “Go home!” moment at a news conference, the looters that destroyed businesses within the city.

Earlier this week, we saw a completely different side of her realness when she teared up in the middle of an interview with “Axios on HBO.” The mother of one daughter and three sons was talking about the November 2014 death of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old Cleveland boy who was playing with a toy gun when he was shot and killed by a white police officer.

Bottoms said that her 12-year-old son was currently “running around the house with a cap gun,” that he had ordered from her Amazon account without her knowledge. She thought about Tamir Rice.

That’s when she lost it … which caused Alexi McCammond, the Axios journalist interviewing her, to cry as well.
