Anthony Mackie Tears Up Because MLK’s Dream is Still Unrealized; Aims to Register 1 Million Men to Vote (Watch)

*Anthony Mackie got emotional during an appearance on “The Tonight Show” Thursday while recalling a time where he stood in the spot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis where Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated in 1968.

Through tears, the actor told host Jimmy Fallon: “It blew my mind to think that this man worked so hard and gave his life, and here we are 55 years later dealing with the exact same thing. And that’s what hurts.”

Mackie went on to explain how his grandfather was a sharecropper, and his dad was a contractor who had to drop out of school in the eighth grade, and how they sacrificed to give him “the opportunity to go to Julliard and be a stupid actor.”

He said the video of George Floyd’s lynching inspired him to launch a website with one goal: registering one million men to vote. Period.
