Meghan Markle ‘Absolutely Devastated’ Over Racism and Civil Unrest in US [VIDEO]

*Meghan, Duchess of Sussex delivered a speech on racism, George Floyd and Black Lives Matter, describing the current civil unrest in the United States as “absolutely devastating.”

In a six-minute video addressed to the students at her former high school, Meghan admitted she was “really nervous” about speaking on the issue, but realized that “the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.”

“George Floyd’s life mattered and Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and Philando Castile’s life mattered, and Tamir Rice’s life mattered,” she told the students of Immaculate Heart High in Los Angels, per MSN.com.

She also recalled the 1992 Los Angeles riots which were “triggered by a senseless act of racism.”

“I remember the curfew and I remember rushing back home and on that drive home, seeing ash fall from the sky and smelling the smoke and seeing the smoke billow out of buildings,” Meghan said.

“Seeing people run out of buildings carrying bags and looting and I remember seeing men in the back of a van just holding guns and rifles.”

A friend of the former actress told Newsweek: “As you can probably tell, it’s pretty raw and she spoke without notes.

“But she’s been having lots of conversations about the issue before filming.

“Both her and Harry have been having private calls with community figures about everything, so I’m sure that helped form her view.”

In the clip, Meghan begins by saying: “As we’ve all seen over the last week, in our country and in our state and in our hometown of LA has been absolutely devastating.

“And I wasn’t sure what I could say to you.

“I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that I wouldn’t or that it would get picked apart and I realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.

Meghan also apologized to students for not getting the world “to a place where you deserve it to be.”

She concluded her message by urging the graduates to use their voices to become the leaders “we all so deeply crave.”

“I am so proud to call each of you a fellow alumni and I’m so eager to see what you are going to do. Please know that I’m cheering you on all along the way,” she said.
