*In the wake of the death of George Floyd, Today’s Hoda Kotb spoke with the mothers of two black men who died in police custody: Eric Garner and Stephon Clark.

Clark’s mother, Se’Quette Clark, said “My heart was crushed” and described telling her son how to behave with police.

Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, said that when she heard Floyd saying “I can’t breathe” on video, “I could hear Eric’s voice echoing from the grave.” She continued, “When the young man said, ‘Mama,’ that was like Eric calling out to me and saying, ‘Ma, you have to do something about this! It’s still happening!'”
