*As was previously reported, former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter after killing George Floyd.
We have now been informed that Chauvin’s bail has been set at $500,000, according to the criminal complaint filed in the 4th Judicial District Court of Minnesota.
We don’t know a lot about how the bail system works … actually, we’re clueless as to how it works, but it does seem to us that for such a high profile case and for such a heinous, public act by now-former police officer Derek Chauvin, and the overwhelming response to it, that a bail of $500k seems measly, if not totally inappropriate.
