LeBron James Channels Colin Kaepernick to Address Lynching of George Floyd

LeBron James

*LeBron James, Snoop Dogg, Meek Mill, Colin Kaepernick and several influencers across entertainment, sports, and politics are speaking out against the lynching death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who was suffocated by a suspected white supremacist on the Minneapolice police force.

The tragedy occurred on Memorial Day, after officers attempted to arrest the 46-year-old on suspicion of forgery. A woman on the scene filmed the incident, showing Floyd handcuffed and on the ground with Officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on the back of his neck, and pleading: “Please, I can’t breathe.”

The officer ignores Floyd’s cry for help even after he appears to lose consciousness, keeping his knee on the victim’s  neck for nearly five minutes.

“The officer stayed in position, with his body weight on Floyd’s neck, for four more minutes after Floyd stopped moving at all. At one point, the officer brandished pepper spray at bystanders who were pleading with police to stop,” wrote the ACLU on Twitter.”

LeBron was among those on social media who shared side-by-side pictures of the kneeling officer to a photo of Kaepernick kneeling in protest against police brutality.

“Do you understand NOW!!??!!??” James wrote Tuesday. “Or is it still blurred to you?? ??‍♂️ #StayWoke?”

And here’s what actor Michael Rapport had to say about Floyd’s public lynching — watch the (NSFW) clip below.

Four police officers were fired Tuesday in connection with Floyd’s death and the FBI is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On Tuesday night, thousands of protestors hit the streets of Minneapolis calling for justice for Floyd and an end to police brutality.

Of course, the militarized police is responding to the demonstrators with tear gas and rubber bullets.

“This will happen again if we don’t get out in front of this,” community activist Al Flowers told the Tribune about the clash. “[This is] one of the most egregious murders I’ve ever seen.”

As someone noted on Twitter about the photo above, “It’s a tale of two Americas. The white supremacists are protected (while) protesting with assault weapons. The protestors against George Floyd’s public lynching are shot at with tear gas. They like to bring tanks out on us too.”

This is what “demanding the state be reopened amidst a pandemic” looks like in America vs “demanding justice for George Floyd”.
