Gayle King Gets Emotional On Air Over George Floyd Murder [WATCH]

*The two biggest racially-charged incidents dominating the news cycle at the moment have rocked “CBS This Morning” anchor Gayle King

King became emotional on air Tuesday morning while discussing Central Park Karen, the white woman who was recorded on cell phone video by a Black man as she called the cops and falsely accused him of threatening her after he asked her to leash her dog.

The second story centers on George Floyd, the Minneapolis man who was murdered in broad daylight by a white police officer, and it too was caught on a cell phone camera.

The tragedy occurred on Memorial Day, after officers attempted to arrest the 46-year-old on suspicion of forgery. A woman on the scene filmed the incident, showing Floyd handcuffed and on the ground with Officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on the back of his neck, and pleading: “Please, I can’t breathe.”

New video of his arrest shows he did not resist during arrest.

Floyd’s pleas for help are ignored by the officers on the scene, and even after he appears to lose consciousness, Chauvin keeps his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly five minutes.

Visibly shaken after reporting on both stories, King told viewers: “I am speechless. I am really, really speechless about what we’re seeing on television this morning. It feels to me like open season … and that sometimes it’s not a safe place to be in this country for black men.”

King added, “Once again I say thank goodness that there’s videotape. As the daughter of a black man and the mother of a black man, this is really too much for me today.”

Continuing, “I’m still rattled by this last story and she’s practically strangling her dog to make these false accusations against another Black man,” she said of Central Park Karen (aka Amy Cooper).

“I’m still so upset by that last story where the man is handcuffed underneath a car where people are pleading he can’t breathe and we’re watching a man die.”

“So we go from that story to this story, where she falsely accuses a Black man on television,” said King. “I don’t even know what to do or how to handle this at this particular time. I know that this is … I am speechless. I am really, really speechless about what we’re seeing in television this morning. It feels to me like an open season and it’s not sometimes a safe place to be in this country for Black men and today it’s too much for me.”
