EUR Exclusive: Which Rapper Ice Cube Picked For A Vegas Residency (Watch)

*Fridays are for Ice Cube!

This weekend, he stars in “The High Note” as a flashy music manager who thinks his client (Tracee Ellis Ross) should play it safe for her age.

EUR correspondent Fahnia Thomas talked to the landmark artist about Twitter beefs, Vegas and shady agents.

Q: Your character Jack Robertson is urging his client to sign a residency contract. Las Vegas needs a hip hop residency, so what would it take to get Ice Cube to say yes?

IC: I don’t know…performing every day is pretty rough. Maybe if it was every other day. They should probably have two hip-hoppers. Me and my man Snoop…if we did every other day it would be crazy.

Q: Jack is also serious about his 20% cut. What manager did you base your character on?

IC: He’s just a little flamboyant. He knows what he knows and he believes in what he knows. And he goes for what he knows. All managers do things their clients don’t need to know about to get the job done. He’s very serious about his percentage. He’s really just trying to pay off his mortgage and is ready to cash in on his catalog. He’s been working for over 20 years with this girl (Grace Davis) and he thinks it’s time to work smarter not harder. Jack is that kind of guy. I love him. Of course, I pulled from a few different dudes but I’m not going to say any names because I don’t need any Twitter beef.

Q: When was the last time you had an incompetent experience with a manager or agent?

IC: I’ve had very competent managers and some were too competent [they weren’t managing for me] they were managing for themselves. When it comes to these kinds of guys…to get that far [in their careers] they know every trick in the book and they’ve tried every trick.

Q: Which is more challenging … rapping or acting?

IC: The hardest part is making sure I give every role texture. People hire actors for a certain flavor they give off. I’ve been put in that category because I give off a certain flavor and people want me. It’s cool. The challenge is making sure it’s the character on screen and you’re not popping in and out with Ice Cube’s feelings. That you fall all the way into the movie and character. That’s the most important thing.
