*Ray J is speaking out for the first time following news that his wife Princess Love had filed for divorce earlier this month.
During a recent virtual press conference, the singer and entrepreneur said they were focused on parenting their two children — Melody Love, who turns 2 on Saturday, and Epik Ray, 4 months.Â
“I’m back with the kids right now so I’m just really excited about my daughter’s birthday coming up this weekend,” Ray J said, via PEOPLE. “Over these past few months, though, I’ve been at the studio locked in. I was at the studio right around when everything got locked down. Before I came home, I had to quarantine for 14 days. My wife has been supermom, and she wasn’t having that so she just wanted to make sure that I was good. We’re taking it one day at a time.”
Adding, “It’s a blessing that my daughter’s birthday is Saturday,” he continued. “For us to all spend time together, talk and just be parents, I think a lot of things unfold from that. That’s a good start for us, just spending time with the kids and making sure that Melody has a great b-day. Through all of that, we can listen and understand each other. Right now we’re just locked in with the parenting. God is good.”

Ray J and Princess tied the know 2016 and fans of the couple witnessed many highs and lows in their relationship when they appeared on “Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood”.
“Sometimes I feel like I need to work, work, work to make sure that I put up enough money for the kids and make sure I secure finances so that we can be safe,” Ray J said. “My first priority is definitely the kids.”
Meanwhile, Princess Love making that move for separation comes as no surprise following their explosive blow-up in Las Vegas November last year. At the time, Love claimed she would be filing for divorce after accusing Ray J of abandoning her and their baby girl in sin city after an awards show.
Love was pregnant at the time, and also accused Ray J fleeing her to go party with strippers.
Ray J has repeatedly denied that he did so. But on May 5, Princess made the filing official.
In the meantime, Ray appears to be focused on fatherhood and preparing new music for his fans.
He’s set to drop “Stranded” on streaming sites in mid-June, which will be the first single off of Ray J’s upcoming summer album, “Follow My Lead.”
“It’s a real feel-good record,” Ray J said. “I was thinking about what I’ve been going through in my life, and I feel like it’s real relatable. There’s always gold at the end of the rainbow.”
