Barack and Michelle Obama Serve Up Virtual Read of Children’s book ‘The Word Collector’ [WATCH]

*Barack and Michelle Obama took part in the Chicago Public Library’s “Live from the Library” series and read the children’s book, “The Word Collector,” by Peter H. Reynolds.

“I remember my first trip to the library and how important I felt,” Michelle says in footage of the reading that was shared on social media, per Daily Mail. “It was around age four. My library card was a key that unlocked a world of knowledge and experiences.”

“Public libraries are essential institutions and thats why we’re bring a new branch of the Chicago Public Library to the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side,” Barack adds.

The Obamas also announced that they’ll be bringing a new branch of the Chicago Public Library to the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side. 

“When it opens, it will give families one more chance to explore their interests, learn, and engage with their communities. And we’re excited for you to visit one day.”

Barack then noted of the book, “We chose this book because illustrates the transformative power of words. I love words.”

“Yeah, your favorite,” saysMichelle.

When they finished the book, Michelle joked that her husband “looks kind of like Jerome,” the main character of the book, as “They have the same ears,” she jokes.

“Mine are a little bigger than Jerome’s,” Barack replies. 

“A lot bigger,” says Michelle.

Michelle recently wrapped her month-long ‘Mondays with Michelle’ series, in which she read four different children’s books for online storytime as part of a collaboration with Penguin Young Readers, Random House Children’s Books, and PBS Kids.

“I’m thrilled to share some of my favorite children’s books and give kids an opportunity to practice their reading (while giving families a much-needed break!),” the former first lady wrote on Twitter.
