Historic Black Newspaper Hosts Webcast on COVID-19 and African Americans

*Denver, CO (BlackNews.com) — Denver Urban Spectrum, Colorado’s premiere publication about communities of color since 1987, will broadcast Urban Spectrum NOW!, a 60-minute webcast highlighting leaders, culture, and issues in Colorado and around the U.S. This news platform takes the Urban Spectrum mission of “sharing the voices and stories of people of color” to a new and larger demographic. The webcast is available to view during the month of May on the publication’s YouTube channel.

To coincide with the current print Denver Urban Spectrum May publication, the inaugural webcast will focus on the coronavirus and its impacts on African Americans, locally and nationally. The Urban Stance segment presents a diverse panel of experts who share insights on how COVID-19 has affected the community within their field of expertise.

Panelists include State Representative Leslie Herod; Financial Planner Myra Donovan; Angelle Fouther (Montbello Organizing Committee); Lauren Casteel (Women’s Foundation of Colorado); Attorney Dawn P. Bookhardt; Dr. Anthony P. Young (Denver-Rocky Mountain Association of Black Psychologists); Dr. Johnny E. Johnson; Lee Gash-Maxey (Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce); Rev. Quincy Shannon; and Bishop Jerry Demmer.

In addition to the panel talk, the webcast highlights people who are making a difference in the community. The nonprofit organization, Struggle of Love, is featured in Urban Spirit and Denver icon musician Freddy Rodriguez, Sr. who lost his life to coronavirus is memorialized in the Urban Splendor segment along with 85-year old Edream Moore.
