Investigators said the woman intentionally allowed her baby to drown in the toilet where she had given birth.

Kambamba told officers that she saw the baby face down in the toilet water and moving but because she continued to have labor contractions, she sat back down on the toilet for at least 30 minutes, not once checking on the newborn until a Smithfield nurse entered the restroom.

An autopsy on the baby revealed evidence consistent with drowning.

Kambamba also faces charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree involuntary manslaughter and abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death, the report states.

She is being held at the Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail in Pattonsburg, Missouri without bond.
