*BET  has announced plans to move forward with a miniseries that will highlight the late Andre Harrell’s groundbreaking career and time at Uptown Records.

Harrell passed away from heart failure at his West Hollywood, Calif. home on May 7.

As reported by thejasminebrand.com, BET president Scott Mills spoke on the miniseries following Harrell’s passing in an official statement, saying:

“We are mourning the loss of a cultural icon, Andre Harrell, a chief architect of the modern hip-hop and R&B sound. Andre was tremendously excited about sharing the origin story of Uptown Records, and its pivotal role in the urban music landscape. With his tragic passing, BET is committed to ensuring that the Uptown limited series event tells both the Uptown story and Andre’s story — that of the incredible music innovator, man and friend to so many.”

Back in December, BET ordered three-part miniseries about Harrell discovering Uptown Records in 1986, which launched the careers of artists such as Mary J. Blige, Sean “Diddy Combs, and Teddy Riley.

Diddy paid tribute to Andre by posting a video of him thanking Harrell for his mentorship during the early days of his career (peep his IG post above).

Several music stars also took to Twitter to honor the industry icon, with rapper Ice Cube writing, “One of the most brilliant leader that the Culture has ever produced. We will all miss Andre Harrell more then we can measure.”

“RIP to my little bro, Andre Harrell…Gone way too soon, but a life lived well & a lasting imprint on our business that can’t be argued,” said Quincy Jones.

On May 9, Ice T wrote, “I just woke up to the awful news that my friend Andre Harrell has passed away.. Andre actually was the person the got me on New York Undercover which started my relationship with Dick Wolf.. My sincere condolences to his family. RIP my friend. Smh”

When the news broke about Andre’s passing, his longtime friend Babyface performed a tribute song in his honor:
