*The white father and son who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery said they were justified because they thought he was a burglary suspect. The unfounded logic prompted Richard Demsick, a white man, to make a point about the racism that was clearly involved.
Shirtless and with his cap turned backwards, Demsick ran 2.23 miles down a Florida street while carrying a flat-screen TV. He was trying to look like a burglary suspect. Not surprisingly, he survived. He even received a few waves.
The 34-year-old former pastor living in Vero Beach, Florida said he wanted to show “that being a suspicious character isn’t enough that someone should be shot down.” He ran the symbolic 2.23 miles on Friday to represent Feb. 23, the day Arbery was killed.
