*Former first lady Michelle Obama calls out Black voters in her Netflix documentary “Becoming,” which chronicles her book tour across the nation.

Obama addresses her negative feelings about Trump’s 2016 presidential victory in the doc, and notes how painful it is that Black voters didn’t turn out to support Hillary Clinton.

“It takes some energy to go high, and we were exhausted from it. Because when you are the first black anything…” she said, referencing anecdotes from her “Becoming” book. “So the day I left the White House and I write about how painful it was to sit on that [inauguration] stage. A lot of our folks didn’t vote. It was almost like a slap in the face.”

“I understand the people who voted for Trump,” she continued. “The people who didn’t vote at all, the young people, the women, that’s when you think, man, people think this is a game.”

Obama also noted her frustration over traditional Democratic voters not turning out to vote.

“Every midterm. Every time Barack didn’t get the Congress he needed, that was because our folks didn’t show up. After all that work, they just couldn’t be bothered to vote at all. That’s my trauma,” she added.

“So little of who I am happened in those eight years. So much more of who I was happened before,” she explains in the film. “I am from the South Side of Chicago. That tells you as much about me as you need to know”.

She also described what her last day inside the White House was like.

“I was like, ‘Wake up! The Trumps are coming. You gotta get up. Get out!,’” Obama said.

“I’m trying not to cry because if I walk out of there crying, they’re going to say I’m crying for a different reason,” she said. As noted by The Daily Beast, when she got on Air Force One, she sobbed for 30 minutes. “The release of eight years of trying to do everything perfectly.”

Netflix describes Obama’s “Becoming” film as ‘an intimate look into the life’ of the former first lady.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Tariq Nasheed noted on Twitter that “Black voters don’t owe Obama a damn thing. Obama and his administration did not punish one race soldier for harming Black people.”
